In May, Jo, our Director here at Phoenix 12 CIC, took on a deeply meaningful challenge: walking 31 miles in 31 days to raise funds and awareness for Dementia UK. True to form, she didn’t just meet the goal—she walked an impressive 44 miles in total!

🌿 Wandering with Purpose
The challenge became a wonderful way to reconnect with nature and local community spaces. Over the course of the month, Jo explored:
- Crystal Palace Park
- Beckenham Place Park
- Millers Pond
- Brockwell Park
- Sydenham Woods
- Horniman Museum Gardens
- And various other green spaces
Each location was visited for three consecutive weeks, bringing rhythm, reflection, and resilience to the journey.
🍴 Next Up: “Under the Diabetic Spotlight”
Jo’s commitment to community health doesn’t stop at walking.
She’s launching a new awareness series called “Under the Diabetic Spotlight”—reviewing meals at local restaurants and takeaways through a diabetic-friendly lens.
The goal? To raise awareness around the lack of low-sugar and low-carb meal options and encourage food businesses to do better.
The first stop? Smoke End, 371 Mile End Road. The review format is currently in the works, and more visits are planned—so watch this space!
💬 Leading with Lived Experience
